What you get at launch
At launch GTA VI is a single-player game, and store listings show one player.
In the FAQ on its Ukrainian game page, Sony answers the question about multiplayer modes by saying GTA VI is a single-player game.
At launch there is no two-player mode, online or on one screen: PlayStation Store listings mark GTA VI as “1 player” and “Offline play only”.

When does GTA 6 Online come out?
An online mode for GTA VI has not been officially announced, and there is no date.

What happens to GTA Online?
GTA Online is not GTA 6’s online mode: it is a separate game built on GTA V.
GTA Online is still getting updates: Rockstar released The Kortz Center Heist on 14 July 2026.
According to Kotaku, Take-Two chief Strauss Zelnick said on the company’s 3 February 2026 earnings call that he had every reason to believe GTA Online would keep being supported.

Take-Two describes the free month of GTA+ with digital pre-orders as a membership for GTA Online and the GTA+ Games Library, which includes GTA V and other classic Rockstar games. It says nothing about an online mode for GTA VI.

Will there be roleplay servers?
Since August 2023 Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM and RedM, has officially been part of Rockstar Games. Roleplay servers for GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 run on those platforms.
No roleplay servers or modding tools have been announced for GTA VI. In 2023 Cfx.re said its partnership with Rockstar was focused on FiveM and RedM.

Can you play for free?
No.
GTA VI is a paid game for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and the Ukrainian PS Store lists no free version or demo.
No versions have been announced for Xbox One, Nintendo Switch or phones.

So sites, APKs and “free keys” offering GTA 6 online in a browser or on a phone are scams: no such version exists. Don’t enter your account password or card details there. For the consoles the game is really coming to, see what platforms GTA 6 is coming to.
What is still unknown
Any online mode for GTA 6 still has no name, date or price. We don’t even know whether it will be part of GTA 6 or a separate game.
PlayStation Store listings say “In-game purchases optional”, and the ESRB flags the game for In-Game Purchases. Rockstar has not explained what exactly will be sold.
